DVD Players

A DVD is an optical disc storage media format, invented and developed by Philips, Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic in 1995. DVD originally stood for Digital Versatile Disk, or Digital Video Disk. The acronym was dropped after DVD proved to have more uses than just storing video content. DVDs offer higher storage capacity than Compact Discs while having the same dimensions. Pre recorded DVDs are mass produced using molding machines that physically stamp data onto the DVD. Such discs are known as DVD-ROM, because data can only be read and not written nor erased. Blank recordable DVDs (DVD-R and DVD+R) can be recorded once using optical disc recording technologies and supported by optical disc drives and DVD recorders and then function as a DVD-ROM. Rewritable DVDs (DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM) can be recorded and erased multiple times.

DVDs are used in DVD-Video consumer digital video format and in DVD-Audio consumer digital audio format, as well as for authoring AVCHD discs. DVDs containing other types of information may be referred to as DVD data discs.

DVD Video is a consumer video format used to store digital video on DVD discs, and is currently the dominant consumer video format in Asia, North America, Europe, and Australia. Discs using the DVD video specification require a DVD drive and a MPEG-2 decoder (e.g., a DVD player, or a computer DVD drive with a software DVD player). Commercial DVD movies are encoded using a combination of MPEG-2 compressed video and audio of varying formats (often multi channel formats as described below). Typically, the data rate for DVD movies ranges from 3 Mbit/s to 9.5 Mbit/s, and the bit rate is usually adaptive. It was first available for retail around 1997.

DVD Audio is a digital format for delivering high fidelity audio content on a DVD. DVD audio is not intended to be a video delivery format and is not the same as video DVDs containing concert films or music videos. The first discs entered the marketplace in 2000. DVD-Audio was in a format war with Super Audio CD (SACD), another format for delivering high fidelity audio content. Neither format has gained a strong position in any consumer market.

A DVD player is a device that plays discs produced under both the DVD-Video and DVD-Audio technical standards, two different and incompatible standards. These devices were invented in 1994 and continue to thrive. However, with the release of high definition media, sales and popularity are expected to drop in the upcoming years. A DVD player has to complete these tasks: Read a DVD disc in ISO – UDF version 1.02 format. Optionally decrypt the data with either CSS and/or Macrovision. Read and obey the DVD’s Regional lockout codes and display a warning if the player is not authorised to play the DVD. Decode the MPEG-2 video stream with a maximum of 10 Mbit/s (peak) or 8 Mbit/s (continuous). Decode sound in MP2, PCM or AC-3 format and output on stereo connector, optical or electric digital connector. Output a video signal, either an analog one (in NTSC, PAL or SECAM format) on the composite, S-Video, SCART, or component video connectors, or a digital one on the DVI or HDMI connectors.

Additionally, most DVD players allow users to play audio CDs (CDDA, MP3, etc.) and Video CDs (VCD). A few include a home cinema decoder (i.e. Dolby Digital, Digital Theater Systems (DTS)). Some newer devices also play videos in the MPEG-4 ASP video compression format (such as DivX) popular in the Internet. Most hardware DVD players have to be connected to a television, there also exist portable devices which have an attached LCD screen and stereo speakers. Portable DVD players are often used for long road trips and other travel.

There are successors to the DVD player: the HD DVD player and the Blu-ray Disc player, utilizing two incompatible technologies that reproduce higher quality video images than standard DVD. On February 19, 2008, Toshiba, creator of the former technology announced it would cease production on all HD DVD products leaving Blu-ray as the high definition successor to DVD players. Also, upscaling and up converting DVD units are available that connect to televisions via a high definition interface and increase the overall picture quality.

Ipad cases

An ipad is a bigger sister of an iphone and sometimes people who have iphones find it proper to also buy ipads. Ipad cases become necessary once you have an ipad. You need ipad cases to protect ipads from possible risks whether you are using them on a table or keeping them in a bag for transportation and or storage purposes. Ipads have large sensitive touch screens which are very prone to scratches, cracks and other damages. Ipads perform similar functions like laptops save for the fact they are much smaller. Unlike laptops and notebooks which are foldable and therefore have protected screens, ipads are not foldable and do not have screen protection.

Ipad cases come in different shapes and are made from different materials. You will find body skins, form kit cases, hard cases, leather cases, carrying cases and flip lid cases.

We stock a wide variety of ipad cases from the above list. There are also more colors and shapes to choose from. Your choice of ipad cases is determined by a variety of reasons. Your lifestyle also has a big role to play in deciding the type of ipad cases you will buy and use.

Body skin ipad cases are relevant at any time you are using an ipad as it makes it possible to access the functions of the device while protecting it from scratches and liquids. They will protect the ipads from light damages like the usual tear and wear of the writings on the screen and the icons. But when you need something that will give better protection to the ipad then you go for hard cases. Hard ipad cases may be convenient when you are traveling and has to keep the ipad together with other objects which might harm it.

Other ipad cases that can be very convenient when traveling are the leather cases which often come with handles and can there be hanged around the neck or on the shoulder with much ease.

Carrying cases and flip lid cases are all very convenient and useful ipad cases which will allow you to keep your ipad safe at all time. You are always welcome to our site from where you will be able to access the widest varieties of ipad cases.

Devices with exposed and sensitive screens like the ipad require special attention during use and even when stored. You need to take great care at all times to be certain your device is not exposed to the dangers which will compromise its ability to perform its functions. It is also not wise spending much money buying an ipad then failing to give it the necessary protection it requires to last longer.

Ipad cases are made from different materials and come in different shapes and even colors. Some ipad cases are suitable for traveling while others are suitable for storing the device. You need the cases to preserve the ipads and ensure they are safe at all times so the money spent on buying them does not go to waste.

Bead Craft

Bead Craft is a simple and fun hobby that anyone, of any age can enjoy. The beauty of it is that it’s so easy to learn the basics, and with only a minimal investment in materials and supplies, even a complete beginner with absolutely no prior experience can begin producing striking finished pieces.

Although the basic mechanics are simple and easily mastered, there are many layers of subtlety and nuance to be found within the hobby. One of those layers of subtlety takes the shape of the staggering variety of bead types that one can base a project around.

Beginners who are just venturing into an exploration of bead craft will likely want to begin simply and as inexpensively as possible (no point in buying hundreds of dollars worth of expensive semi0precious stones at the outset, only to discover that it isn’t really for you), and the hobby lends itself well to this approach, as beads for the beginner are found in great quantity and variety at most major chain retail outlets.

A trip to your local Wal-Mart or similar store will reveal ample supplies of inexpensive plastic beads to practice basic designs with, and while most bead craft veterans prefer silk thread for stringing, simple fishing line can be used to good effect in most cases.

If you don’t want to be quite so limited in your early foray into bead craft, national art supply chain stores such as Michael’s offer good supplies of metal findings, glass and wooden beads, and these can be combined in a near infinite number of ways to stunning effect.

Although there is some specialized equipment that can make your bead craft experience a bit easier and more efficient, these are not really necessary for the absolute beginner.

Once you’ve completed a few projects, if you find you’re enjoying yourself, a minimal investment can get you fully outfitted with various “tools of the trade” that veterans of bead craft employ in the execution of their ideas.

Once you’ve determined that bead craft is your kind of hobby, you’ll invariably want to search out increasingly exotic beads for your projects. This is where the specialty shops will become important. A specialty shop will carry exotics like Czech glass beads, a variety of faceted beads in a multitude of sizes and colors, and a good selection of semi-precious stones, and other surprises besides.

After you have gained a bit of design experience, and especially if you decide you’d like to start giving your creations as gifts or selling them for profit, you’ll likely find yourself relying more and more on specialty shops.

Ideally, you’ll have one of these in your local area, but if not, there are a number of reputable vendors online who carry impressive inventories of beading supplies.

Start simple, start small, and if you decide bead craft is for you, there are tons of resources available, both on and off line!

To learn more about this and related topics, see Bead Craft

Ford Kuga Ford Kuga

The Ford Kuga was built at Ford’s plant in Saarlouis, Germany and went on sale at the beginning of 2008.

Ford executives were considering the prospects of sales in North America but scrapped the idea after the car could not be sold both competitively priced and at a profit due to the current dollar-Euro exchange rate in 2007.

In May 2010 Ford announced that it would build unspecified hybrids at a plant in Valencia, Spain. The Ford Kuga Hybrid would be Ford’s first hybrid to be sold in Europe, though it has sold almost 100,000 Ford Escape Hybrids in the U.S. since 2004.

The Ford Kuga was voted ‘best small SUV Award 2009′ by Fleet News, the Ford Kuga’s good looks helped on swaying the judges’ decision.

The Ford Kuga is an ideal choice for a family, as the rear and front seat passengers can stretch out and relax, while the cavernous boot is accessed via a two-piece tailgate.

The Ford Kuga’s keyless start button is simple, stylish and the ergonomic steering wheel is easy to handle and the information display comprehensive.

Ford Kuga’s levels of fuel economy and CO2 emissions to the small 4×4 segment and the new models continue that tradition.

The two-wheel-drive Ford Kuga is fitted with the new 140PS version of the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine which achieves a CO2 output of just 156g/km, while the 140PS and 163PS all-wheel-drive models with manual transmission deliver 159g/km, a six per cent reduction compared with the previous 136PS engine.

The latest Ford Kuga is available with the ultimate Ford ‘Individual’ trim on Titanium series which include:

Eco Tourism

The words “Eco” “Eco Friendly Holidays” and “Eco Tourism” are rapidly becoming the current buzzwords in the holiday travel industry. While welcoming the current focus on the environment it must be said that although many reputable travel organizations are truly dedicated to conservation and protection of the environment there are others simply exploiting marketing possibilities.

There is no argument against the facts that we humans cause emission of harmful gases from our homes, when driving our cars and when flying away on holiday. According to Chaucer, there are lies, dammed lies and statistics and the current statistics, being banded about suggest that airlines are the main offenders. In fact, our homes are the worst offenders with around 25% of emissions, with airlines contributing 5%.

Household emissions of CO2 are calculated at 11 tonnes per person per annum whereas a return holiday flight to Belize produces 2.38 tonnes per passenger.

Having said that, it must be conceded that air travel is the fastest growing source of harmful emission.

Governments seem unwilling or unable to address these problems in a practical way. As a holiday traveler there are some ways you can contribute to the reduction of CO2.
Perhaps it is possible for you and your family to have fewer but longer holidays if they require air travel. You could also eliminate those short breaks.

Direct flights to your destination will reduce the take-offs and landings which contribute the worst emissions. Night and winter flights should be avoided if possible. Choose a “young” airline. New aircraft pollute less. Perhaps visit local holiday destinations with travel by car (car sharing), public transport or even walking or cycling.

Extremists would suggest banning all holiday flights.

This would have a totally negative effect on the economies of many of the countries visited by tourists. The money earned from responsible tourists will fund education programmes, support conservation projects and enable investment in carbon reduction technologies.

In your own way, as an Eco Tourist you can also help the environment at your holiday destination. Economise on the air conditioning, limit use of the laundry facilities, don’t waste water, if it is safe drink tap water, buy locally produced food etc, from local establishments and avoid the purchase of imported goods.

Your choice of holiday destination and method of travel can make a positive contribution to this global problem. If we were all to make even small changes in our lifestyle and travel it would amount to a very large change in the damage we are causing globally.
