O my, Where do I begin?
For the average Joe just starting out on an internet venture, it can be a daunting and scary task. There are so many questions and so many solutions to those questions it can cripple people at the starting line.
Think back to when you decided to learn to drive and imagine the following scenario. Can you imagine if after your first lesson, you were told to sit in the car and drive a couple of hundred miles to a destination. You would also have to drive through several big cities and towns on route, use major highways and do all this with out a map or co driver. Also, every time you stop to ask for directions or short cuts your credit card will be charged $97.
If anything goes wrong with the car, brakes, punctures overheating etc the it’s your responsibility to find a garage and have it fixed and paid for. He also tells you to be careful that they don’t rip you off cause of your lack of mechanical skills.
He also reminds you that there are sever penalties for breaching speed limits or breaking any road rules. You could be severely delayed or even have your car confiscated.
How confident would you as a learner be on completing this journey? I’d bet you would lose quiet a few hours sleep the night before. It’s also a likely bet that you never even start the journey.
Crazy unrealistic situation I know but I just want to compare it to the similar thoughts that run through peoples minds when they embark on an online venture. There is just so much to do and learn. So many cross roads, and pitfalls. Building and online business too can just seem like an impossible task for beginners.
The main reason budding internet entrepreneurs feel like this is because they are bombarded with information from all directions. Onsite SEO, Link building, serach engine rules and penalties, Pay Per Click, Web 2.0, Article Marketing….. The list just goes on and on.
You need to learn all of these skills right away or you risk falling behind and never succeeding online. This is one of the most common reasons people fail online. There is just too much to do and learn and it changes at a rapid place. It doesn’t have be like this. People need to realize that one or two marketing techniques done correctly can really kick things off for your business.
Just like our driving scenario, from once you learn to drive you can easily move to more advance driving levels. Before you know it you are driving down motor ways, using your G.P.S to get to places you’ve never even seen before and you are even renting cars in foreign countries where they drive on different sides of the road.
Life is exactly the same online. After you have been in the driving seat for just a short while, your confidence seems to grow and you just seem to soak up details that you need and drive on past any clutter or technologies that you just don’t need or that you can look into later when time allows it and your business can grow from it.
So the next time you go to open all those emails from those gurus you so admire, stop and think to yourself. Have I at least tried implementing the last bit of information that registered with me. If not, save that email for another day and fulfill that promise you made to implement the last cool strategy you learned. How can you ever filter out the good strategies from the bad if you never implement them? How can you tell a true guru from a fake if you’ve never implemented FULLY anything yourself?
