Dog Food Analysis – Reviews Of Kibble

by Jolie Mitchel

The concern over food safety has led to the movement of dog owners to make their own home-made dog food. By making their own dog food known as holistic dog food, not only do they save money and are giving their dogs a nutritious and safe food source, but it is also easy to make.

The breakdown of a healthy dog diet includes 70% carbohydrates, 25% meat, and 5% vegetables and other additions. Dogs being omnivores need a combination of meat and vegetables and some additions that can be added to their food include bonemeal, garlic, and certain flours

The carbohydrate component in holistic dog food can consist of whole wheat flour, cornmeal, oats, soy flour and barley and sometimes white and brown rice can be used as well. This carbohydrate component should be the base of the diet.

The next major component of the holistic dog food is the meat. The best options for meat are quality products such as lean chicken, beef, fish, and egg whites. These can be then grinded to make the food making process easier.

There are many nutrients that a dog also needs and can be added in the form of vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, celery, corn, and spinach. If the dog owner wants to use organic produce, those options must first be checked for availability. Grinding the vegetables helps with digestion and by adding small amounts of garlic you also can keep the fleas away. To aid in the addition of calcium, bonemeal and dehydrated milk can be added.

When you are ready to make your dog’s food, simply combine the components together with a bit of water and cook until the meat or protein is cooked throughout. A simple homemade dog food recipe would be to combine one cup of cornmeal, about one-fourth of a cup of ground chicken, a tablespoon full of ground carrots, and a sprinkling of bonemeal. Place in a saucepan with a half cup of water, and simmer until the chicken is cooked. Most dog food recipes can be kept in the refrigerator for two days

Certain items must be avoided when making the food for your dog. Caffeine bearing products such as chocolate have been known to cause seizures in dogs. Certain spices may affect dogs who are sensitive as well as grapes, raisins, avocados, and onions which may cause harm to the dog’s health.

By making your own dog food, you can ensure safety and nutrition and make a change in the dogs lifespan, weight, and energy level. A veterinarian should be aware of this process and help assist with any special considerations when making the food. This method of feeding your dog home-made food will keep your dog healthy and your pockets full.
